Why we love this wine
-
Viticulture
The timing of budburst was similar to previous years. The early part of the season was notable for lower sunshine hours, especially in November. Flowering took place in early December with very changeable weather. January and February were extremely hot and dry, withering the surrounding hills and putting pressure on irrigation systems. This also brought forward the harvest by 10-14 days. Warm, dry conditions over harvest meant the grapes could be picked with optimum flavour and without pressure from disease or rain. -
Winemaking
The fruit was handpicked and whole-cluster-pressed in cool morning conditions. After 12 hours of settling, the juice was racked, warmed and then a selected yeast strain was added to start fermentation. After fermentation was complete, the wine was aged on yeast lees for 2-3 months to build texture and complexity. -
Tasting
Colour: light-straw with a gold hue and bright clarity. Nose: a complex array of fresh pear, toasted almond, fennel bulb and aniseed. Palate: a medium-bodied wine with a soft creamy texture. This wine has fresh fruit flavours such as pear and rockmelon that persist on a long, relatively dry finish. Cellaring: up to four years. -
Makers Match
A food-friendly style, an ideal companion to pork and chicken dishes or enjoy with pâtés and hard cheeses.
