Pinot Rosé 2019
"Taste of Spring" 20% off 6+ bottles of Hand-crafted Bladen Pinot Rosé
Estate vineyard hand-picked grapes. The vineyard is the first love at Bladen.
Every vine on their eight-hectare allotment – which supplies a good portion of their grapes – was hand-planted by Dave and Christine Macdonald who continue to live by the adage that the best wine is made in the vineyard.
Why we love this wine
Grapes & TerroirSilty loam over free-draining gravels. Standard vertical trellis.
ViticultureThe timing of budburst was similar to previous years. The early part of the season was notable for lower sunshine hours, especially in November. January and February were very hot and dry, withering the surrounding hills and putting pressure on irrigation systems. This also brought forward the harvest by 10-14 days. Warm, dry conditions over harvest meant the grapes could be picked with optimum flavour and without pressure from disease or rain.
WinemakingThe grapes were hand-picked on a cool Autumn morning. The juice was held on skins for 2 hours in the press before pressing off. The juice was then settled for 48 hours before racking to another tank and inoculated with a selected yeast strain. The juice was fermented at a low temperature to retain fruitfulness. After ferment, the wine was held on its yeast lees for 2 months before bottling.
TastingColour: vibrant orange-pink. Nose: lifted red fruits, such as strawberry and raspberry on the nose, with a hint of Herbs de Provence adding complexity. Palate: watermelon and wild strawberry notes with a hint of creaming soda. The palate is crisp with a lingering dry finish. Cellaring: best enjoyed over the warm summer months ahead.
Wine & Food PairingTry serving this dry Rose with smoked fish, pâtés, or fresh summer salads.
