Winemaking
The Pinot Gris from “The Old Block” at Bladen was planted in 1989. The fruit was handpicked and whole-cluster-pressed in cool morning conditions. After 12 hours of settling, the juice was racked, warmed and then a selected yeast strain was added to start fermentation. After fermentation was complete, the wine was aged on yeast lees for 2-3 months to build texture and complexity. -
Tasting
Colour: light-straw with a gold hue and bright clarity. Nose: a complex array of fresh pear, toasted almond, fennel bulb and aniseed. Palate: a medium-bodied wine with a soft creamy texture. This wine has fresh fruit flavours such as pear and rockmelon that persist on a long, relatively dry finish. Cellaring: up to four years. -
